if I were a super-hero...

My super-hero name would be "Internet Tough Guy"

  1. This is really nice.

On your profile, you list your profession as "illustrator/designer." Actually, your current profession is "unemployed and living in parents' basement." You need to either change the information on your profile or else get out of the basement and actually become an illustrator/designer.

    Best of luck.

  2. First off, I apologize for not calling your associate; it came up in the middle of a seriously challenging project (still ongoing) and I don't have long distance phone service so it was too difficult to figure out given the circumstances. I should have told you, though; very sorry about that.

As for qualifying my profile -- to those of you who aren't aware -- I am in fact engaged in freelance illustration and design right from this very basement. I'm currently doing a poster and a newsletter and I've recently produced several graphics for clothing. In fact, just this evening I turned down an offer for a Flash cartoon because I need to focus on finishing my outstanding projects.

On the other hand, I concede that a basement is a basement nomatter how busy you are, and I would definitely be learning faster if I had some mentors to feed off of and some space to expand into. My plan is to take one term of classes next term to solidify myself as a designer (this was supposed to happen last term but things went awry.) After that the plan is to network and cold-call and pavement-pound until I find an internship. It would, of course, be ideal to get a head start on the one before finishing off the other, but I've found myself to be a terrible multitasker when it comes to these things -- especially jobseeking, which for some subconscious reason I am irrationally, paralyzingly, deathly afraid of. I don't like it, but one must know one's limitations.

Anyway, in case you people on the Internet were still wondering why a guy like me is living with his folks, well there you have it. Pathetic, I know, but that's my situation and I am doing the best I can to shake it.

  4. He's family; it's his job to be concerned. Actually, my dad gave me similar advice over dinner just now. Fun fact: he was living in his mother's basement too at my age, and now is about the time in his life when he caught a break and got his first job in show business.

Change is in the air, my friends; it's only a matter of time. Also, a matter of finishing these bloody assignments I'm on as soon as possible. Which is why I'm going to cheat and call this bit of introspection my journal entry for the day -- drawing or no.

  5. Your family eats dinner together?

And a cheer for the changes coming. (hiphip) I call it shifting. Rather intense these past couple days...well for everyone I know anyhow.
